K.A. Namkung
Namkung is a leading Asia expert with forty-five years of experience in U.S.-Asian relations in public policy, academic and think tank research, business consulting, and nonprofit fields of endeavor. He frequently provides advisory services to corporations, private foundations, and NGOs on political and economic trends in U.S.-Asian and intraAsian relations. Namkung is regarded by senior officials in the governments of Japan, China, South Korea, North Korea, and the U.S. as an effective negotiator who can communicate across political boundaries in dealing with difficult issues and credited with having helped defuse major tensions and crises on the Korean peninsula on several occasions. He has a major reputation as a successful institution-builder in the Asian studies and policy affairs fields. Namkung was the founding deputy director of U.C. Berkeley’s Institute of East Asian Studies. He also has been the executive director of the Asia Society in New York.
