Our Mission
The Androcles Project is nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organization registered in the State of New York dedicated to designing, resourcing, and implementing innovative confidence-building measures (CBMs) aimed at supporting diplomacy with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) in pursuit of a durable peace on the Korean Peninsula. These CBMs are encompassed within two broad categories: 1) humanitarian engagement efforts coordinated with the Permanent Mission of the DPRK to the United Nations in New York; and 2) cultural and educational exchanges focused on building mutual trust and greater understanding between the peoples of the US and the DPRK.
Our Story
The story of Androcles and the Lion first appeared in the works of several major Roman authors in the first century C.E. to illustrate how both the giver and the receiver benefit from dealing with one another in a sincere and mutually respectful manner. Our organization seeks to embody this theme of gratitude as a form of reciprocity in which benefiting others redounds to one’s own benefit. We believe that sustained cooperation and engagement will pave the way toward a bright future for U.S.-Korea relations.
